New Deck – Transparent Tarot

A new spin on the traditional tarot, this 78 card deck is printed on plastic (not sure it is very good for the environment) and is designed to be used in layers, to see how a situation is unfolding or how the Querants journey is unfolding.

I know that Emily created this deck to be used with multiple cards, that is the whole point so working with the deck in this way is can be very meaningful to see what combinations of the cards are going to look like and in what order they fall. Keeping track of the order is something that can be hard to tell with the deck, because the cards are on top of each other it is hard to see unless you take note of it when they fall what order they are in.

I think my biggest criticism of this deck and I am sure I am not alone in this is that when you draw a card as a single it hold very little to go by, this deck was created to be used with other cards true, but I think that does diminish some of what the tarot is in essence. The fact that you can pick up a deck of any cards that have all the cards illustrated and meditate on the imagery or get multiple messages because of the detail is some of the magic of the tarot. This is the main reason I do not read with Tarot decks that have unillustrated pips. I personally think it is lazy of the artist and while I know the cards meanings by memory I like to have the additional images to jog my intuition. To have to use a deck along with more of it because there isn’t enough given by the creator is off putting.

The artwork is really lovely, watery and soft with bolder outlines and Emily has ensured that there is not any card that overbears another when laid, each card has the same feel and the pictures are also somewhat transparent. Each of the edges on the cards has been rounded. Shuffling and cutting the deck takes some getting used to because of the plastic and they can stick together. There is no need to worry about this deck getting coffee or tea spilt on it as you can simply wipe it off which is nice if you are like me and enjoy a cup of tea with my readings.

The deck is presented in a good box with a well-written book and a white cloth to conduct readings on, which was necessary, but also thoughtful of the creator to include it in the kit.

Until Next time...
