I first met Gail when I was 18 years old when I walked into the Sun Moon and Star spiritual center and store near Fremantle in Western Australia. I had a wonderful Tarot reading with Gail and really admired her honest, straight forward approach to guiding people. Here was this amazing blonde bombshell, fellow Gemini, all smiles and no Bull Shit. What was not to love about this woman? I was privileged later to be in her classes for Tarot and Psychic Development. I have gone to her for Tarot readings many times over the years and have always recommended her to pretty much anyone.
Gail has been a major influence in my Tarot journey and I wanted to ask her about hers on my website.
Ethony: What was your first experience with Tarot?
Gail: I bought my first deck at 16, ( a whole 41 years ago eeeek) I loved it, but I was also very fearful and put it away.
Ethony: What was your first Tarot Deck?
Gail: Beside that deck, which sorry I cant recall, my first deck was the mme Lemonard set, that I still work with today. I bought many many decks in the early days, but when I found the Mythic deck, I remained with it.
(I would like to ad that it is the original Mythic deck not the ugly redone one that is on the market now)
Ethony: What drew you to teaching others the Tarot?
Gail: I had never thought of teaching others, but I had many students wanting to learn more, so it began as a casual get together, and then later became a structured course. I love teaching tarot, I always feel I learn far more than the students do!
Ethony: What is the one stand out lesson that reading for people has allowed you to learn?
Gail: Without a doubt the biggest thing for me was the realisation that every one has the same basic needs, love, acceptance, shelter and a need to belong. I am no longer nervous of people who are famous, or highly educated, every one sitting at my table is in need of some guidance, and I hope I help each and everyone.
Ethony: What do you believe is the biggest challenge for a professional Tarot reader?
Gail: I think the biggest challenge for people who do this work professionally, is time. The temptation to make yourself available to all, to be always on call. I had a hard time learning that my well needs to be full before I can help others. Many times I have hit the wall with exhaustion, and ill health. It so important for a reader to allow time out, breaks between reads, and time to be human!
Ethony: Any advice for those who are learning to read the Tarot?
Gail: My advice to the new students starting up with the tarot, is firstly choose your deck wisely. You have to love it. The tarot will not open itself up to the casual observer. You must take time to learn and grow with the cards. Oh, and you will never stop learning, as you will never know it all!
Ethony: What is your favorite Tarot deck to read with?
Gail: My favourite deck is and has always been the Mythic Tarot, however I have many more I adore also, but for my professional reads, I will also alternate with the Mystic Dreamers Tarot.
Thank you so much for this opportunity, I am so humbled that you would like to know my journey. Just to finish, I would like to say the Tarot opened up a world I could never have imagined in my wildest dreams, some of the best friends I have ever had, yourself included, have come to me via my tarot work. Life long friendships have been forged over the spread of the cards. I am so wonderfully and gratefully blessed.
