The Tarot of the Vampyres Review

The Tarot of the Vampyres Review

Published this year it seems that Vampires really are inescapable and Llewellyn wants to cash in on it. May as well, everyone else is!

Created by Ian Daniels who is a very talented British artist, whom also wrote the accompanied book called the Phantasmagoria.
The cards are dark and there is a lot of blood (Duh I know right) included amongst the many many pale undead are medusa’s, crows, demons, hell horses and other dark mythological beings.
So many of the white haired Vampyre ladies look like Taylor Momsen (especially the Daughter of Knives with hooker boots and all!), the rock n roll Taylor and there are also figures that look like Evan Rachel Wood, or it could just be me.
This is not the kind of deck that I would use to read with some people because they are dark but they are beautiful. Some of the cards are hard to read, The Hanged Man is a card that I actually don’t really like to look at so reading with them in a way that is personal for me would be hard.
The book is packed full of information and Ian wrote a wonderful book, one of the best I have come across. The book is divided into the following sections.
Part  I – Phantasmagoria
A Dark and Stormy Night – Introduction and Background
Ian covers things such as the Shadow side of our selves and our psyche and the hunger that we all have in regards to our reconnection to spirit and a little bit about the design on the back of the cards. He also covers the elemental meanings of each of the suits. Fire – Scepters (traditionally Wands) Water  – Grails (traditionally Cups) Air -Knives (traditionally Swords) and Earth – Skulls (traditionally Pentacles).
Alchemy – About The Cards
Information about the Hebrew alphabet, the Zodiac, the Kabala, and the Tree of Life. He even gives the astrological correspondences of the Minor Arcana.
The Awakening – Card Spreads and Exercises
There are reading tips and guidelines and nine Tarot Spreads with themed names like Dark Mirror and Forbidden Fruit. The Exercises include using the dreams with the Tarot, story telling and chakra work.
Kith and Kin – Personal Card Portraits
Creating a Vampyre name, clans and personal Tarot cards
Part II – The Cards
Major Arcana and Minor Arcana
Each of the Tarot Cards has a lot of information including the cards Alchemy, Kindred Spirits, Essence, Message, Analysis and Symbolism and Shadow.
All in all this is an excellent deck and I love them.

Until Next time...
