Should YOU Use a Tarot Spread?! Tarot Spreads vs Free Form Readings

Do you get sidetracked during readings? Are you unsure of what the cards are trying to tell you? Are your readings a hot, confusing mess? A well-made Tarot Spread could be just the thing you need to solve all of your Tarot reading problems.

Hi, Tarot Bumblebees,

Do you get sidetracked during readings? Are you unsure of what the cards are trying to tell you? Are your readings a hot, confusing mess? A well-made Tarot Spread could be just the thing you need to solve all of your Tarot reading problems. It’s essentially a Tarot road map for your readings. This roadmap comes with specific placements for each of the cards to give you specific context for reading and interpretation the Tarot. Not only that, the Tarot cards and positions relate to each other giving you the ability to give a well-rounded and in-depth reading for your querent or for yourself.

Pros of using Tarot Spreads

  • Spreads eliminate confusion

Spreads actually allow you to focus on a specific aspect of a Tarot card. Great for pinpointing the actual context and meaning of the cards.

  • Spreads keep you on track

Using a Tarot spread ensures you stay on track and don’t get distracted by a million spiritual rabbit holes. This keeps the momentum of the reading going and structures everything into a start, middle and end.

  • Spreads give your specific guidance

When you have a querent who has a specific question you can tailor make a spread that will fit the situation perfectly. When using or finding a Tarot spread I’d recommend a 3-5 card spread unless you’re sitting down for a large session. Find a spread that focuses on the outcome of the situation. Focus on a spread that delivers an action for your client to do, change, think about or embrace in their lives.

Cons of using Tarot Spreads

  • You can box in a reading and shut down your intuition
  • Can make the flow a little clunky if you’re not used to them

In the end, it all comes down to practice, practice, practice. It’s the only way you’re going to get any better when using spreads. Use 2, 3 and 4 card spread. Try it a few times until you get the hang of it or maybe you don’t like and that’s OK. I love using Tarot spreads for certain situations and other times I do free-form readings. There’s no one way to read the Tarot.

Here’s the link to my Tarot by The Moon Guide for 2021, it’s filled with amazing Tarot spreads for the full and new moon. Alright, my lovelies, let me know in the comment section below, are you a Tarot spread lover, a free-form reader or do you like to use both?

Until Next week...

  1. is there a good reason to being drawn to oracle cards? it seems that’s all that has drawn me in. I have tarot cards but rarely use them, I can’t read them but the oracle cards I seem to have no problem reading and understanding with. Do you have any suggestions or advice for me?

    1. Hi Lisa, I always say, work with the deck or system that is calling and connecting with you. This helps unlock your intuition and get you in touch with your ‘clairs’. We all have different tastes and will resonate with different systems. 🙂

  2. I think if you want to receive a specific and concrete message, you can choose tarot spreads that help align with those goals. A well-made Tarot Spread could be just the thing you need to solve all of your Tarot reading problems.
