Positive Witches in Pop Culture

Let’s face it Witches have gotten a lot of bad press when it comes to the portrayal of their appearance, abilities and whom they have dedicated their life to serving. As a Witch myself I am so glad that there are more and more positive Witches in books, television and movies. So here is my own appreciation post to those who have created and become  these fantastic characters in books, TV Series and Movies.  The Witches below are listed in order of them appearing in my life. Glinda – The Good Witch of the North – The Wizard of Oz

First Harvest and New Beginnings

I am currently recovering from a pretty epic weekend. My feet are still too sore to stand for long periods of time but at least the ringing in my ears has stopped.  I am enjoying my last week of semi freedom before University starts full time next week and get a head start on the readings. Friday night The Scared Grove had their opening night. This is where I am going to be working. I have my first day there tomorrow. It is such a wonderful space to work and be in. Lumina has really created such a wonderful place.

The Healing Flame

Oppressive Heat Pitch Black Solitude of the Mind Healing Chanting Sweating Breathing Enduring Journeying Rebirthing Grounding Awakening That is what my experience of Saturday night was partaking in my Second sweat with Tamara Lampard pouring and with my Spirit Sisters.  The experience really put me back into my body and I was forced to experience every minute of it. I was unable to leave my body, unable to let my mind go elsewhere. I was focused, I had to be.  It was an incredible experience emerging from the all consuming heat to the cool night air, feeling it touch every

Australian Wiccan Conference and going back to the ‘Real World’

This weekend I had such a great time at the Australian Wiccan Conference going back to the real world and work has been an adjustment. Friday night we arrived at the place where the local Pagan social club holds an annual camp to meet and great new people. One of the highlights for me over the weekend was all of the new people that either came from other states in Australia or were from WA and had not been to a Combined Covens even before. Saturday was when the spiritual work really began, there was complete rosters of lectures and I went

Bright Blessings Astrid

Last weekend I was lucky enough to be asked to take part in my Friends daughters naming and blessing ceremony in Mount Barker, Western Australia. We all gathered at a stunning family farm house which was warm and inviting and simple stunning for the event. My friends parents house is rammed earth and stone with beautiful high ceilings with a feature fire place that is large enough to park a small car inside. We went down to the beautiful circle space for the ritual and it was such a lovely ceremony. There friends and family blessed Astrid with the elemental

Imbolc Blessings and Vegan Apple Crumble Pie

While preparing food for our Imbolc feast I originally started out with the idea of making Vegan Apple Crumble. While the apples where cooking I got rather adventurous and decided to make it into a pie. Now the last time I made pie, which was a yummy cherry pie, I burnt myself and the pastry broke several times. It made me rather frustrated and I still have a scar from the burn but I didn’t want to let that stop me from being a master baker of pies. So instead of following a recipe for short crust pastry I made

The Wheel turns The nights are long The days are short We feel Winder’s grasp in the air and we long for the Sun’s return. Samhain Ball 2010

Last night the girls and I went to the Combined Covens Social Clubs’ Pagan Community Ball for Samhain (Halloween). It was a masquerade ball and we had an awesome time. About half a can of hair spray and loads of bobby pins went into my hair, I never thought I was going to get the same stuff out, it did with a lot of conditioner. Some of the costumes were amazing and people had gone to such a great effort to get involved. The ritual conducted by The Temple was great, very Wiccan, very traditional and very fitting. It felt
